As a second-time mom I feel that I now have a much better understanding of what to expect and what is really necessary to buy in order to prepare for a newborn baby. With my first I registered and purchased so many things that I ended up not even using at all! When I had my daughter in September I realized which items I consistently used with both of my kids as newborns and compiled this list hoping to help other first-time moms. These were definitely necessities for me and made my life much easier. The best part is that these 10 budget friendly baby essentials can all be purchased or registered for on Amazon!
1. The Newborn Boppy Lounger
This was an absolute must have for us. It is so perfect when you are just hanging out on the couch or even watching a movie in bed. It’s also great for bottle feeding when your arms are a little tired. Both of my kids loved it!
2. Little Remedies Gas Drops
I know this seems like a weird thing to purchase before baby even arrives but trust me when I say that these are a lifesaver! Both of my kids had terrible gas as newborns, which resulted in a lot of sleepless nights at first. Plus no one wants to see their baby uncomfortable or in pain. I noticed such a difference after giving these drops so I had to add them to the list.
3. Onesies with Mitten Cuff
Both of my kids were terrible about scratching at their faces as newborns and those little mittens that you see everywhere would NEVER stay on. These onesies solved that problem. They have a cuff at the end of the sleeve that covers their hands that they absolutely cannot get off! Also, they are great for sleeping in or just hanging out around the house.
4. Arms Reach Bassinet – This is my favorite bassinet! It can rest on top of your mattress so you can easily reach your little one in the night. Great for breast feeding! It’s almost like co-sleeping without the worries that come with that.
5. Graco Pack’n Play This is probably my most used item EVER. I still to this day use it with my almost three year old when traveling. It has a removable bassinet on top that you can use for your newborn. As your baby grows it transitions to a spacious toddler playpen/sleep area. This is a much cheaper option than a lot of the other models but still has all the features that are important.
6. SwaddleMe Swaddles
I received several different kinds of swaddles from my first baby shower but definitely liked these the best. They are super easy to use and are also very lightweight, which is perfect for warmer months. Plus the price is great for a 3-pack!
7. Boon Grass
It seems silly but it’s an absolute must have if you plan on bottle feeding or pumping at any point. It’s easy to clean and it dries everything thoroughly and quickly! It also holds more than it appears and doesn’t take up much space on the counter.
8. The First Years Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn to Toddler Tub
This bath tub is budget friendly and can be used until your baby is 25 lbs. The sling is great for a newborn and is super easy to clean. I used this with both babies and it was also great for giving sponge baths when the umbilical cord still has not fallen off.
9. Skip Hop Portable Changing Station
I received this as a gift from my first baby shower and have used it hundreds of times! It’s so nice to have a water-proof surface to change a diaper wherever you need to. I also always use this on top of the changing station whenever I’m out in public and it easily fits in a diaper bag. Definitely one of my go-to items.
10. Burp Cloths
These are often forgotten when purchasing items for a new baby but they are SO essential! I go through at least two a day, so the more the better. I love this brand because they are super absorbent and soft. The patterns are also really cute and they have different options for boys and girls. 4-pack here on Amazon
Hopefully this list of 10 budget friendly baby essentials is helpful for those first-time mommas! These were my favorite and most-used items with my son and now with my daughter.
